Coconut flakes, cinnamon and honey scrub

Hello everyone,

I know I haven’t been around for a while now, but today I have a fun and easy homemade scrub for you to try out.
It’s been a tough few weeks for me, now that it’s clearing up, I decided I’d take care of myself a little bit, just at home, nothing fancy. Sometimes all we need is simplicity.

I hope you’ll like it as much as I do ;

Here is the recipe :

  • 2Ts coconut flakes
  • 1ts cinnamon
  • 1Ts honey
    coconut scrub steps
Mix all the ingredients very well , put it on clean makeup free face and leave it on for 5 min. Afterwards start scrubbing using circular motions and rinse with warm water.
scrub mix
I usually follow this up by toning my face with rose water and moisturizing it with Argan oil (I follow the same steps as my facial, you can find detailed explanations here)

If you are struggling with acne, like I am this scrub uses all the right ingredients to help you out :

  • Honey is one of my favorite ingredients to use in beauty treatment, the greatest moisturizer ever created, it also has antibacterial properties, making it perfect for treating acne in a very soft way. ( You can see another recipe with honey here)
  • Cinnamon, which is a natural antiseptic, it will kill all the bacteria that cause breakout and dry out any existing pimples. it also stimulates blood circulation supplying the surface of your skin with much needed oxygen and nutrients.
  •  As for the coconut flakes, I like my scrubs to have some solid particles that act as a  mechanical peel (like beads in regular over the counter scrubs), This is the role of the coconut flakes in this recipe, they are gentle enough for the skin of the face but still very effective.
So tell me guys, how do you treat yourself after a stressful time? I’m all about revitalize  my body, it took me through the stress and change and carelessness, it deserves a little reword!

See you next time ! XOXO

DIY Alum Stone deodorant

Hello everyone,

Today it’s all about armpits , I’ve been disappointed and mostly scared of all the deodorants there was, disappointed because they don’t do the job and scared because of all the harmful and wasteful ingredients in them.

So here I am with a DIY deodorant using alum stone. I made it a few weeks ago, and at some point, my mom and my best friend asked for a jar too, and I taught that you guys would love it to try.

But what is Alum Stone ? It is a natural crystal stone, it contains pure potassium alum mineral salts extracted from a natural quarry. Alum stone is known for its astringent and mildly antiseptic properties. So it will kill all the nasty bacteria that cause armpits to smell, it will also help heal any razor cuts and stop them from bleeding.

You can either use the stone itself by moistening it and applying it directly. Or you can follow this recipe that adds a nice smell with musk and coconut oil which has amazing moisturizing properties.

Why is it important to moisturize your armpits ? Because it’s a sensitive skin area that gets a rough treatment from all the razor shaving harsh chemicals, that result in it turning dark ( very unattractive ), Keeping them moisturized and exfoliating that area can prevent that problem.

I use musk because it’s natural and it smells great, but feel free to use essential oils .

What you need is :
  • An empty container ( I just used an old jar from some empty beauty product)
  • 1Ts alum stone powder
  • 1Ts coconut oil
  • 1ts of grated musk
deodorant ingrediants and steps
  1. Start with a clean and dry container .
  2. Add in the alum stone powder and the grated musk.
  3. After wards you want to melt your coconut oil in a bowl of warm water and add it into the mix.
  4. Mix all the ingredients together and let it harden.
deodorant final
How to use it ?
dip your fingers in the mixture and massage it into clean armpits after a shower.
It will keep you smelling nice and fresh until you next shower.
Did you ever use Alum stone? what purpose did you use it for ? And was it any good?

Pimple Eraser

First happy valentines day everybody, how was it? I hope you had fun.

You know how after a long night partying and feeling great, you wake up and boom a huge breakout is sitting in the middle of your face.

If that’s the case I’ve got the perfect spot acne treatment for you guys.

This is the recipe :

  1. 3 crushed cloves
  2. a dab of honey
  3. a squeeze of lemon

mix it all together and put over your pimples. Leave it for 5 min or if you are more patient than me up to 15 min.

Rinse it off with cold water.

cloves contain eugenol, a natural antiseptic that helps clear acne. You can also use it as an over all face mask. Honey will act as a moisturizer and lemon is also a strong antiseptic and is a natural and soft way to bleach acne scars giving you a smooth and even complexion.

But seriously guys my pimple was barely there after I rinsed off the mixture.

It would be great for me to know if this little trick worked with you and how you like it . Do you have a  recipe? I would love to try them and get back to you with the results .

The ultimate facial for acne prone skin

hello everyone,

Like every girl with oily and acne prone skin I’ve been trying different kinds of treatments for evening my skin tone, control break out and fade acne scars.

So far I’ve been sticking to this one facial that I do whenever I feel like pampering my self and deal with those issues.

This facial is on 4 steps:

Step 1 : The Mask

After cleansing my face or steam prepping  I put on this mask for 10 to 15 min and then wash it off with warm water.

For the mask you’ll need 1 table-spoon of brewer’s yeast and the juice of half a lemonmask lemon and yeast

lemon and yeast mix

why is this mask the best ?  yeast can externally help reduce acne and tighten and brighten the skin. In addition, because it is rich in vitamin B, brewer’s yeast is great at helping reduce wrinkles and restoring skin’s elasticity. As for lemon we all know it benefits from fading acne scars to its great antiseptic properties.

Step 2:  Honey face moisturizer

honey facial moisturizer

I use honey as a moisturizer, any moisturizer would do but I like the extra benefits I get for my acne when using honey. As you might be aware of honey is very soothing and hydrating, it also has antibacterial properties and slightly bleaching effect making it great for acne and scaring.

I put it on my face and massage it a little bit and leave it on for another 10 min, then rinse it off .You can add it directly in the mask, I just find it more relaxing to use it this way.

Step 3: Toning

rose toner

I use rose-water, I find it’s a very effective non chemical way to tighten pores , soothe the skin and balance the pH level, and it smells great.

I put a little bit on a cotton pad and just wipe my whole face with it. My skin always feels awake after I do this.

Step 4: Locking moisture

This is the last step I dab my face with Argan oil and call it a night. you can use the oil that suits you best, the idea is when you put oil it insures that moisture will stay in longer thus your skin will benefit from it more.

I do this facial at night and sleep with Argan oil on my face as a night cream, you can read my posts about it here and here.

My favorite part of this facial is honey its soothing and relaxing. What’s your favorite part? Do you have a routine that you enjoy and stick to ?

See you next time with another Natural beauty tip.

Argan Oil Part 2: for SKIN

As I promised last week when I wrote about Argan oil for hair , here is my post about Argan oil and skin.

You probably heard of the anti-aging properties this oil has, this is the reason they call it liquid gold, but it has also many other benefits on the skin.

Argan oils composition rich in Phytosterol which prevents skin aging,  essential fatty acids (omega 6 and 9) that repairs skin cells and expels harmful waste, Squalene which fights free radicals caused from sun exposure and Vitamine E that reduces the appearance of scaring and stretch marks, makes it just a unique and overall great oil for skin.

In short Argan oil can be used for:
– Moisturizing your skin .
– Reducing the appearance of wrinkles and preventing new ones.
– Treating flaky and dry skin.
– Control oil secretion and breakout.
– Fading acne scars.

– preventing Stretch marks.

The beauty of Moroccan Hammam and why I like it so much is that you can see everyones beauty rituals and seek advice from women there.

I know Hammams are not such a common thing, but the advises stay valid after a hot shower or a relaxing bath.

So right after the bath they would use Argan oil as an all body moisturizer, even for their kids.

I’ve also seen a couple of pregnant women massaging it into their belly to prevent stretch marks.

Personally I use it as a night cream , after cleaning up my skin from all makeup traces and impurities i would dab my face and neck with two pumps of Argan oil , massage it a little bit (it feels great) and wash it off in the morning.

this daily treatment made my skin a lot better I even don’t break out as much as i used to, since my skin is all moisturized it doesn’t feel the need to produce excess sebum. Even though it’s an oil it’s not greasy and your skin absorbs it really well.

I also had when I was in Agadir a case of really dry lips, cracked so much that they would bleed, and a lady at the Souk (selling Argan) told me to put it on my lips and stay constantly adding some. First I taught she told me that just to sell her Argan ( 😛 ) but it really worked, my lips were ugly for some time but once they completely peeled out it revealed smooth and soft lips.

I hope this article was helpful, does anyone know of a beauty secret in their region?

See you guys next time XOXO

Argan oil Part 1: for hair

I lived in Agadir for 3 years for my studies. It’s a beautiful coastal city in the south known for it’s all year round great weather and its beautiful beaches. But most of all it is known for producing Argan, Agadir is the capital of the only region where the Argan tree can grow.

I enjoyed my stay there, and I managed when I was not too occupied with my studies to get to know from women how they use this plant for their beauty.

Facts about Argan :
– The useful part of it is the nut and more specifically the kernel
nut fruit argan
– the kernel is either roasted and pressed to make oil for food purposes, people from the region  eat it at breakfast with bread and tea or to make Amlou , I call it the moroccan nutella (yummy) it’s basically grounded almonds mixed with Argan oil and honey.
– For cosmetic uses the Kernel is not roasted before extracting the oil, traditionally this oil is used  as  a skin protection for new-born babies.

– what’s left of the extraction is also used either for feeding animals or in hammam as scrubs and hair masks.

This first part of my Argan post I’ll be talking about how to use Argan oil for hair.

Against frizzy and dull hair :

I’ve suffered for a long time with frizz and hair that wouldn’t be tamed. When I moved to Agadir the humid weather didn’t make it any better, but the good part was that I found my cure in that city . I used Argan oil.
Just As you would use an oil treatment, cover your locks with Argan oil and wrap it in a scarf let it sit over night. while you’re sleeping the oil will achieve miracles for you. In do morning wash your hair as you  normally would, and that’s it your hair will be silky smooth frizz free and luminous.
See my Hot! oil treatment for curly hair I used Argan oil in it.

Against hair loss and to boost hair growth:

Argan oil is a rich source of vitamin E, essential for boosting hair growth. all you’ll need to do is massage your scalp with Argan oil 30 min  before every shower. the massaging will stimulate blood circulation and the Argan oil will supply your scalp with vitamin E.

Repair Split ends :

I’ve seen a tremendous effect on my split ends after smoothing the smallest amount of Argan oil on my ends on damp hair (after a shower), it’s not greasy so there is no chance of your hair looking oily after it’s dry. this will only disguise the split ends you already have but it will prevent more damage, and it doubles as a leave-in  conditioner as it has great moisturizing properties.

Heat protectant:

I don’t use heat on my hair that often, only on very special occasions ( my wedding, graduation party …).  The reason why I dread using heat on my hair is a trip to the hair dresser that left me with simply burned hair, the smell didn’t want to go away even after several showers. ( Bad experience)

But if you do use heat on your hair, Argan oil has a high smoke point and carotenoids which will act as both a heat protectant and a UV block from sun radiation.

Argan oil is one of mother natures miracles, next week I’ll write about it’s amazing benefits for skin and how I usually use it.

See you next week XOXO.

Steaming Hot !

steaming hot facial
Facial steam is a great way to pamper yourself and give your skin a needed treat.

It will help moisturize your skin deeply, get more blood flow to your face and open up your pores.

This is a great step to add in your weekly beauty routine as a preparation for any face mask or lotion.

After a steam your skin will absorb anything you put on it so make sure it’s natural and toxin free.

This recipe contains :

  • dried rose buds: roses help lock moisture into your skin, it also has antibacterial properties making it great for acne prone skin, for those with sensitive skin, roses are the best to sooth and lift away any redness.
  • green tea: green tea is loaded with antioxidants, this will help reduce wrinkles and fine lines, it also known for reducing inflammation, treating red spot and even sun damage.
  • dried chamomile: chamomile has great healing properties, it can speed the healing of wounds and burns , it also reduces itchiness .

The steam from these herbs will be loaded with their essential oils, so all these benefits will be absorbed by your skin.

What you need to do:

  1. Clean your skin from any traces of makeup and impurities.
  2. boil a pot of water.
  3. in a bowl put one cup of dried herbs.
  4. add boiling water ( about 6 cups) and let steep until it’s not so hot anymore (don’t burn yourself !!)
  5. put your head over the bowl and cover it with a large towel.
  6. now enjoy and relax ! after 10 to 15 min your skin will be ready for a great cleansing, mask or a super moisturizer.

These are the herbs I like, but many combinations can work for different skin types. What herbs do you like to use ?

See you next week with another beauty DIY XOXO.
